TPI receives innovation award

Release date: 04 November 2005

TPI was pleased to be presented with an AusIndustry award for innovation at an event showcasing Tasmanian innovation in Hobart on Friday.

The award highlighted TPI’s commitment to innovative research and development in the poppy industry and specifically “for innovation in developing alternative Thebaine poppies and enhanced extraction techniques”.

TPI Director, Jarrod Ritchie, said the award reflected one of the key ideals behind the company and looked forward to presenting the results of TPI’s research to the poppy industry in the future.

“While we are still in the early stages of a long term commitment to Tasmania and the poppy industry, we are pleased to receive recognition and support for what we believe will create some genuine opportunities in the future.”

TPI was proud to be in the company of seven of Tasmania’s most promising innovation projects, as part of an Australian Government event to highlight Tasmanian innovation.

Federal Industry Minister, Ian Macfarlane led a 60-strong group of industry and government representatives in congratulating the Tasmanian innovators in a keynote address delivered at the showcase event.

“In recent times, innovation has taken on increasing significance in the economy, giving our industries the all-important edge in competitive global markets,” Mr Macfarlane said.

“Tasmanian businesses have clearly risen to the challenge, and are bringing a range of innovative products to domestic - and even international - markets.”

TPI is conducting highly innovative research programs in collaboration with scientific partners from commercial and university sectors.
